Orthodontics

Do you dream of a beautifully straight smile that's easy to clean, care for, and show off with confidence? Orthodontics can make your dreams a reality by giving you teeth that look aesthetically pleasing and improving your oral health. Patients across the Las Vegas, NV, area choose Carepoint Dental in Henderson, NV, for high-quality treatment with orthodontics.

Why Is Orthodontics Important?

Orthodontics is the field of dentistry that focuses on the alignment of the teeth and jaw. Beyond improving the aesthetics of your smile, orthodontics can give you straighter teeth that are easier to clean, improving your oral health. This type of treatment can also prevent future jaw issues by alleviating the pressure exerted on one side or the other by an imbalanced bite.

Are Braces Right for You? Request a Consultation to Find Out

If you have dental alignment problems, orthodontic treatment with braces may be just the thing you need to straighten your smile, reduce crowding, and enjoy the benefits of a well-aligned set of teeth.

Finding the right orthodontist to treat your misalignment can be difficult and time-consuming. Thankfully, you don't need to visit an orthodontist when you have Dr. Aaron Osga, who specializes in various dental fields, including orthodontics and oral surgery. He can use this knowledge to carefully assess if orthodontics or another form of dental treatment is right for you.

At Carepoint Dental, we only recommend dental procedures that serve your needs. We provide an honest assessment as to whether orthodontic treatment is a worthwhile investment for your smile, as well as roughly how long your treatment will take.

How Do Braces Work?

Braces gradually shift your teeth into proper position using brackets, wires, and bands. You'll visit our office for adjustments so Dr. Osga can apply the right amount of pressure to each tooth to ideally align your smile.

Brackets

The first part of braces are the brackets, which will be attached to the front of your teeth. The brackets give the archwires and bands something to attach to and apply pressure to the teeth in order to move them into the correct position.

Archwires

A long wire is then threaded through the front of the brackets. There's one wire for each arch of teeth. The wire will be switched out throughout your treatment to ensure it maintains the correct amount of pressure to align your smile properly.

Bands

Next, small rubber bands are placed around the brackets to hold the wires in place and add additional pressure to the teeth. These bands come in various colors that you can choose from at each adjustment appointment.

Some smiles need an extra nudge to move them into the proper position. Your doctor may require you to wear elastic bands that move the front or back teeth forward or to the side to aid in alignment. You will replace these each day.

Orthodontic Treatment Timeline

We'll use advanced technology throughout your orthodontics treatment to ensure you enjoy optimal results.
We'll use advanced technology throughout your orthodontics treatment to ensure you enjoy optimal results.

Consultation

Your orthodontic treatment will start with a consultation with Dr. Osga. We'll likely take X-rays of your teeth, and he can use them to determine if you are a good candidate for orthodontics.

Impressions

If Dr. Osga thinks braces are right for you, he'll start the process with digital impressions of your smile. Unlike old-school putty impressions, digital impressions use a digital imaging wand to create a 3D model of your bite.

Determining Treatment

Dr. Osga can create an image of your smile before braces and what it will look like after treatment to give you a side-by-side look at the possibilities afforded by orthodontics.

Placing the Braces

After Dr. Osga has determined braces are right for you, we will place brackets directly onto your teeth and attach a wire and bands to the brackets.

Adjustment Appointments

Every few weeks, you'll join us back at our Henderson office for adjustments to the pressure of your braces. Dr. Osga can also use these appointments to ensure your treatment is going as planned.

Straightened Smile

Once you get to the end of your treatment and your teeth are straight and aligned, we will take another set of digital impressions to fabricate retainers to keep your smile in pristine condition.

Ready to Straighten Your Smile? Request a Consultation Today

Even if your orthodontic concerns are mild, treatment has many benefits. In fact, a straightened smile can improve your oral health by making it easier to brush all surfaces of your teeth. A properly aligned smile can also prevent excessive wear on the teeth and TMJs.

Don't I Have to See an Orthodontist for Orthodontic Treatment?

This is a common misconception that many orthodontic patients hold. Fortunately, it's not always necessary to see an orthodontist for braces, especially when you have access to a highly trained dentist like Dr. Osga.

Dr. Osga isn't an orthodontist, but he's deeply studied the field of orthodontics, as well as other dentistry fields, to give him the skill to treat a wide variety of dental conditions, including misalignment. With this knowledge, he can accurately assess the state of your teeth and determine if orthodontic treatment is right for you or if another form of dentistry is better suited to treating your condition.

Additionally, his broad knowledge of other dental treatments means you can come to our office for everything from general cleanings to oral surgery. No matter which treatment you need, our goal is to build a lasting relationship with you based on trust and individualized care.

Frequently Asked Questions About Orthodontics

How long will my orthodontic treatment take?

This will depend on a variety of factors, such as your exact orthodontic concerns and the severity of the issue. Milder misalignment can take as little as 12-18 months. More severe misalignment can take longer. The average treatment timeline for braces is about 18-24 months.

How do I clean my braces?

Brush and floss as you normally would but be sure to brush around the brackets and wires as well. We also recommend using a special brush to get between the brackets and wires properly.

What should I do if a bracket or wire pops off or breaks?

Contact our Henderson dental practice as soon as possible so we can get you in to fix the issue promptly. Do not try to fix the issue yourself.

Once my treatment is done, how long do I have to wear a retainer?

We recommend wearing your retainer every night indefinitely to maintain your straightened smile. This will prevent your teeth from shifting so your results can last a lifetime. Patients get used to wearing their retainer quickly, so you won't have to worry about it being uncomfortable.
